My Weekend at the Movies

I went to the movie theater twice this past weekend…which is rare, but there were two movies I really wanted to see.

The first film was SMOKIN’ ACES. From the previews I saw on MySpace, this looked like a gangster action flick a la Guy Ritchie. Yes, it had extremely dark humor and was full of guns & graphic violence. It had a very intense storyline and kept me guessing right up to the end, “Who’s double crossing who and why?” Overall, however, I thought the film was merely “okay”.

On my movie-meter from 1 to 10 (10 being the best), I give SMOKIN’ ACES a 6.5. Would I want to own it for my DVD collection? No.

The second film was BLOOD & CHOCOLATE. This is a young adult love story with enough action sequences, special effects and a good storyline to keep me interested all the way through the film. Set and filmed in Romania, the rustic old world scenery was just lovely and made me enjoy this film even more! If I had a chance to see this movie on the big screen again, I definitely would!

My movie meter rates BLOOD & CHOCOLATE a 9.0 and yes, I would like to own it for my DVD collection.

Just my $1.01—for what it’s worth with butter on top!
Thx & Hugs,
Sabrina )O(

Local Sightings: A UFO & George Clooney

Skimming the local WSOC online news the past few days, I found two interesting bits. First of all, 911 dispatchers received calls about a mysterious light in the sky around 8 PM Wednesday evening. Callers say they witnessed a bluish light descending in a slow arch like a shooting star, but no official report yet on whatever the lights were and local airports report no missing or downed aircraft.

On Friday, residents of Statesville NC (just north of Charlotte) saw a star of their own: George Clooney. Mr. Clooney was in town checking out locations for an upcoming movie production and had the town in a buzz. “He is just as gorgeous as he is in the movies. If not better because he was in person,” said Chrissy Dillard, who works in the Statesville City Hall.

I didn’t see either one, but if I had my choice, I’d choose to see good ol’ George. However, a UFO would also be pretty exciting too!

Have a wonderful weekend—

Explore the Boundaries of Sexual Fantasy & Intimate Desires ...

“Roll up your skirt, Dixie,” Mitchell had commanded from the driver’s seat.

“Sir?”

“You heard me, Dixie,” he glanced over at his protégé with a gleam in his blue eyes. “I expect you to obey.”

Obey.

The word hung in the air between them—dangling, laced with a hint of domination and daring. Dixie drew a sharp inhalation, her eyes darting nervously to the cars around them, also obviously stuck in the traffic jam.

“Ignore them,” Mitchell replied coyly, indicating the surrounding motorists. “I want to see your panties.” His eyes twinkled with a golden flash of assertiveness.

Dixie’s heart thumped in her chest. She drew her fingers to the hem of her skirt, encircling the fine material, and then drawing it up to reveal her thighs, to the thin elastic leggings of her powder blue lacey undergarments.
“Like this, Mitchell, sir?”

Mitchell Wilcox glanced down, silently admiring the exposed smoothness of her thighs with a lick of his lips. He nodded his approval.
“Now, take off your panties.”

Dixie’s face flushed crimson, but she didn’t hesitate. Shifting her buttocks over the leather seat, she managed to wiggle the blue panties off her hips. The lacy material glided easily down her legs, pooling around her ankles on the floor of the car. The leather was cool against her bare derrière, a peculiar contrast to the warmth that had begun to spread through her sex, stirring, waking a wanton desire within her to display herself for her benefactor.

“Mmm, you’re so lovely, my dear,” Mitchell cooed, smiling over at her. His hands still gripped the steering wheel, but her benefactor’s eyes roamed over the curves of her womanly charms.

Her sex began to hum, her exotic juices gathering between her thighs at the mere sound of his voice, making her eager, making her sticky and making her want to do anything for Mitchell Wilcox.

Anything.

Folks, I'd like to introduce you to my spiritual brother --a true rock-n-roller with a heart of gold and a soul to match...Gideon Smith! Gideon's written a book, a spiritual autobiography, of sorts, titled WAY OF THE OUTLAW SPIRIT. It's now available thru Lulu.com at: http://www.lulu.com/content/530705

Gideon's a special man. He's been to Hell and back a few times ...and he's a real survivor and a truly good soul! :)

Gideon himself says, "From the beginning to the end, it’s a book, like my life, which is about love, music, magic and madness, inspiration while walking the hardline in the shadows and the light. If you can dig it, step within…"

And he's already got a glowing review: "Gideon Smith is a Rock N Roll Kung Fu Spiritual Warrior that has beautifully blended all of these elements into a brilliantly written book full of intuitive wisdom, empowering knowledge, and heart felt compassion. He shares his life experiences for others to learn and grow from. Every one - no matter where you are on your life's journey can and will walk away after reading WAY OF THE OUTLAW SPIRIT, with more courage and confidence than ever before. The gentle and loving soul of Gideon Smith shines through in this magical book. Read, learn and be inspired!" --H.Heisme

Baby Dragons Born!

The Associated Press reports that in an evolutionary twist, the newborns' eight-year-old mother Flora shocked staff at Chester Zoo in northern England when she became pregnant without ever having a male partner or even being exposed to the opposite sex. The virgin birth of five Komodo dragons gives scientists new hope for the captive breeding of the endangered species!

The article goes on to say, “Parthenogenesis — where eggs become embryos without male fertilization — had only been noted once before in a Komodo dragon. Genetic tests showed that Sungai, a resident of London Zoo, was the sole parent to offspring last April.”

Modern Pagans Honor Zeus in Athens

By PARIS AYIOMAMITIS, Associated Press Writer Sun
Jan 21, 4:26 PM ET

ATHENS, Greece - A clutch of modern pagans
honored Zeus at a 1,800-year-old temple in the
heart of Athens on Sunday — the first known
ceremony of its kind held there since the ancient
Greek religion was outlawed by the Roman empire
in the late 4th century.

Watched by curious onlookers, some 20 worshippers
gathered next to the ruins of the temple for a
celebration organized by Ellinais, a year-old
Athens-based group that is campaigning to revive
old religious practices from the era when Greece
was a fount of education and philosophy.

The group ignored a ban by the Culture Ministry,
which declared the site off limits to any kind of
organized activity to protect the monument. But
participants did not try to enter the temple
itself, which is closed to everyone, and no
officials sought to stop the ceremony.

Dressed in ancient costumes, worshippers standing
near the temple's imposing Corinthian columns
recited hymns calling on the Olympian Zeus, "King
of the gods and the mover of things," to bring
peace to the world.

"Our message is world peace and an ecological way
of life in which everyone has the right to
education," said Kostas Stathopoulos, one of
three "high priests" overseeing the event, which
celebrated the nuptials of Zeus and Hera, the
goddess of love and marriage.

To the Greeks, ecological awareness was
fundamental, Stathopoulos said after a priestess,
with arms raised to the sky, called on Zeus "to
bring rain to the planet."

A herald holding a metal staff topped with two
snake heads proclaimed the beginning of the
ceremony before priests in blue and red robes
released two white doves as symbols of peace. A
priest poured libations of wine and incense
burned on a tiny copper tripod while a choir of
men and women chanted hymns.

"Our hymns stress the brotherhood of man and do
not single out nations," said priest Giorgos
Alexelis.

For the organizers, who follow a calendar marking
time from the first Olympiad in 776 B.C., the
ceremony was far more than a simple recreation.

"We are Greeks and we demand from the government
the right to use our temples," said high
priestess Doreta Peppa.

Ellinais was founded last year and has 34
official members, mainly academics, lawyers and
other professionals. It won a court battle for
state recognition of the ancient Greek religion
and is demanding the government register its
offices as a place of worship, a move that could
allow the group to perform weddings and other
rites.

Christianity rose to prominence in Greece in the
4th century after Roman Emperor Constantine's
conversion. Emperor Theodosius wiped out the last
vestige of the Olympian gods when he abolished
the
Olympic Games in A.D. 394. Several isolated
pockets of pagan worship lingered as late as the
9th century.

"The Christians shut down our schools and
destroyed our temples," said Yiannis Panagidis, a
36-year-old accountant at the ceremony.

Most Greeks are baptized Orthodox Christians, and
the church rejects ancient religious practices as
pagan. Church officials have refused to attend
flame ceremony re-enactments at Olympia before
the Olympic Games because Apollo, the ancient god
of light, is invoked.

Unlike the monotheistic religions of
Christianity, Judaism and Islam, the old religion
lacked written ethical guidelines, but its gods
were said to strike down mortals who displayed
excessive pride or "hubris" — a recurring theme
in the tragedies of Euripides and other ancient
writers.

"We do not believe in dogmas and decrees, as the
other religions do. We believe in freedom of
thought," Stathopoulos said.

Interview w/Erotic Romance Author Cara North

Sabrina: Ahoy, Cara! Would you please tell the readers a little bit about yourself?

Cara: Well, I'm Cara North. I use the pen name because I teach at the local college and I like to keep my working and writing world separate. (Students can be vicious and use anything they can find against you if they are not pleased with a grade.) I write a few different things but I mainly write contemporary romance, and erotic romance. I love writing. It is something I have done all of my life and hopefully will continue to do.

Sabrina: Describe for our readers the type of stories you write, please.

Cara: I write the kind of story I would like to read. I love my hero's. Usually when I have a story idea it is because I have a hero in mind.

Sabrina: What, as a writer, inspires you?

Cara: Well I have to say (to my husband’s irritation) that Josh Hartnett is my Muse. I don't follow much about his personal life, I just like the way he is on screen and in photographs. He's not perfect, but he is handsome. As far as the rest of my inspiration- I inspire me, life inspires me, every success or tragedy I witness has its own story and that is what I build my fictional worlds around. For all intensive purposes I should have been a lot of things in my life and a writer isn't one of those. I know inside me a great book is waiting to come out and hit the best seller list, that isn't my ego, it's the truth. There is a great book in many of us. We have to find the courage to write it.

As far as an inspiring event goes, I read a book once, and at the end of the story there was a dedication to the author. She had died four years before I read her book. Up until I read the dedication, I thought about her, what she was working on now, in my hands for those few hours I spent reading her novel, she was as alive as I am. If nothing else I leave a legacy behind me. And I am sure some may say- well you write smut is that what you want to leave behind? I'll say- absolutely- that smut is how I got brought into this world why not let sex be what I leave behind when I am taken out of it.

Sabrina: Would you please tell our readers a little bit about the Pirate anthology?

Cara: Ah, the Pirates. This was something very different for me. I was asked
if I wanted to write a short for an anthology for charity. How do you say ‘no’
to that. Then when I got the invitation it was for a pirate anthology. I thought to myself, ‘Great Googly Moogly- you suck at historical!’ So I put a bit of a twist on it. LOL. I am excited to see what Ann Cory, Jaden Sinclair and Teresa Wayne have done.

Sabrina: When & where can the anthology be ordered?

Cara: The anthology A PIRATES TREASURE, will be available at Mardi Gras Publishing, on January 20th 2007.

Sabrina: Tell us a little bit about the charity the anthology's proceeds go to.

Cara: Half of all proceeds authors, publishers, editors, everyone equally, will be donated to St Jude's. So I encourage you to buy the book, enjoy the read, and write it off on your taxes which is something you can't do often when buying for pleasure.

Sabrina: What other book releases do you have coming soon?

Cara: The second installment of my Johnson brothers, Heath Johnson, the oldest has
his book released on February 17th. It will not be available in print until later in 2007 so you'll have to pick it up on e-book until then. SHE THINKS MY TRACTOR’S SEXY follows TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF, and picks up right where TEQUILA left off. I'm nervous about this one- I'll be honest. The first was received so well, I just don't want to let people down.

Sabrina: What 'works in progress' are you currently working on?

Cara: Well, there is the last two stories in the Country Music Collection,
ONE HOT MOMMA, Rafe Johnson's story and SAVE A HORSE, RIDE A COWBOY, Lucky's story- and he gets his own book because of Jan Johnson, the little sister, but he
does not get Jan. In addition I am shopping my Beaufort Series to large print publishers, we shall see how that turns out.

Sabrina: What are your future plans for your writing career?

Cara: To keep writing, long and short stories, to be published by an RWA recognized house, and in my wildest dreams to hit that NY Times best seller list someday. So not much-LOL!

Thank you for having me on your blog today. Maybe you'll return the favor and come talk to my readers on Sirens and Muses about your steamy works as well?

Thx, Cara, I will! And thanks for a wonderful interview!

Lusty Lady Gone Bye-Bye?

As I’m celebrating the release of my D/s Erotica Fantasy, CHARADE, I found out this morning that the Village Voice fired sex columnist, Rachel Kramer Bussel. RKB’s wonderful, enlightening column, THE LUSTY LADY, was one of the best monthly features I have enjoyed reading over the past few years!

As talented as RKB is, I’m sure she’ll find something bigger and better! In support of my fellow sex writer, I want to say, “Bad Village Voice –bad, bad!” What can my one rant do? Nothing much –but I can let other people know. So there!

So, bye-bye, Lusty Lady –for now. We will be looking forward to seeing you again somewhere else. Please keep us posted!

A Brief Scene From CHARADE by Sabrina Luna
A D/s Erotica Fantasy
Coming January 16th
At Aphrodite's Apples Press

“What is your name, girl?” Samson spoke, his voice rumbling through the silence and breaking through her churning thoughts. He moved towards her. His movements were feline and full of grace. The dark-haired man was wearing no more than a pair of
loose fitting gold lame slacks and a bejeweled pair of sandals on his feet. The soft lighting of the room played over the fine form of his muscles as they moved under his flesh. He was taut and fit, a prime example of the male physique. Dixie felt the heat once again consume her body. Her nipples stiffened in response to his gaze, as if begging for Samson’s attention.

“Dixie, sir.”

“Dixie?” His eyes gleamed as a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “I’ve heard of you. You are the protégé of Mr. Wilcox; am I correct?”

“Yes, sir.”

“I am Samson, a pupil of Lady Athena, whom you’ve already had the pleasure of meeting this evening.” The husky man stood in front of her, filling her vision with his strong presence. “It will be a real pleasure to play with you, Miss Dixie.”

“Thank you, Samson, sir.” Dixie meekly replied. An uncomfortable silence fell between them. The air in the room seemed to shimmer as the classical background music washed over her senses. Her own impatience unnerved her. She was tired of the soirée and the ‘club rules’. All she wanted was to go home. Home? The mere thought of returning back into Mitchell’s arms made her heart skip a beat. Her benefactor made her feel special, loved and cared for. His home was where she felt she truly belonged. With quiet resolve, Dixie decided to be patient and play along…it was the only way.

“You are very beautiful, girl,” Samson’s polite etiquette dissolved, the look in his eyes revealing a man on the very edge of lust. Dixie noticed the unmistakable oblong shape in his pants. It was solid and pressing against the fine fabric. Dixie drew a deep breath and quickly drew her gaze away from the man’s crotch. Samson chuckled. “And I see that you have a lusty eye, too.”

Dixie blushed, feeling the warm tingle of embarrassment wash over her from head to toe. Samson stepped behind her. The man’s large hand slid effortlessly around her waist, pressing her nakedness against him. His flat, firm palm pressed against the softness of Dixie’s belly. The warmth from Samson’s hand subliminally branded her as his play toy. Dixie felt powerless in the larger man’s shadow.

Samson’s breath was hot on her ear as he drew his fingers up to her nipple rings and gave the circlet of gold a tender, yet firm tug. Dixie let out a low moan as pain bittersweetly mingled with pleasure. The sensual shockwaves rippled through her entire body. “So, how do you suppose I should correct you, girl?”

“I-I don’t know, sir.” Dixie whispered in a shaky voice. The animalistic heat that radiated from the sensual man had sent a current of pure desire riveting through her. As she tried desperately to get her bearings, the door to the room clicked open. Its sudden opening startled Dixie, but she dared not turn around.

Are Men Vainer Than Women?

David Zinczenko asks a big question—are men more attentive to their looks than women?

Zinczenko says, the survey he did for his book MEN LOVE & SEX showed that 9 in 10 men aren't satisfied with their appearance and they'd jump at the chance at changing one particular part of their body if they could.

The survey provided some interesting findings:

• When asked how much he'd pay for rock-hard abs (if it was only that easy), the average guy would invest $5,000 of his own money in himself. For movie-star looks in general, he'd drop $17,600.

• 38 percent of men said they'd want larger pectoral muscles. However, beating pecs as the top male body issue, over 40 percent of guys say the gut is the number one body part they'd like to change.

• And look at this hair-raising finding: American men spend more than $300 million on toupees annually. And $800 million on hair transplants!

For the full article CLICK HERE

It’s nice to know men to care about their health and appearances, IMHO.

Okay, time to confess, what areas of your man’s body does he seem to get the most attention to? My ex was obsessed with his hair—he took a full hour in the bathroom, giving extra pampering to his long locks. My current friend is worried about his belly. He’s going to the gym now & trying to lose a little around his middle.

Your turn! Don’t be shy—do tell!

Thx,

Interview w/Horror Author Adra Steia

Writing the genre of Horror is tough—less alone being a woman who writes Horror. Horror writing is dark and gritty, taking readers through twisted fears and scares. I, personally, admire women who write Horror and am very please to interview Adra Steia about her new ebook, SWAMP BABY.

Sabrina: Hi Adra! Would you please tell the readers a little bit about yourself?

Adra: I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I'd written seven novels by the time I graduated high school (those sad little books are buried deep in my closet, where the will ever remain). I live in central Florida, and I'm a teacher by day.

Sabrina: Please describe for our readers the type of stories you write.

Adra: I write in a few different genres, although horror is probably my main genre. I grew up on King and Laymon and Koontz. I love emotional stories with a real push to resolution, so that's what I write. I absolutely love supernatural Christian thrillers, so I'm hoping to churn out a few of those out as well.

Sabrina: What, as a writer, inspires you?

Adra: Music. I love hard, driving alternative and rock and roll. My dreams are freaky-scary, so I can generally plot an entire story from a dream or two.

Sabrina: So, please, tell our readers a little bit about the book you have available & where they can find it.

Adra: My newest release is called SWAMP BABY. It's a horror with some romantic elements. But it's mostly horror. Set in central Florida, it revolves around three people: Suwannee, her ex-husband Michael, and her best friend Derry (who happens to be Michael's former foster brother). Suwannee is haunted by a curse placed on her family and Michael is possessed with an entity known as Spirit-mother and believes he can shape-shift into a panther. Poor Derry is in love with Suwannee, but can't admit it. Michael's Spirit-mother demands that he kill Suwannee to appease the ancient curse, but before he can, she's kidnapped by swamp cannibals. Michael and Derry have to brave the dangers of the swamp (and Michael's psychosis) to save her.

It's nice and gory. :)

Sabrina: What 'Works in Progress' are you currently working on?

Adra: At the moment, I have a modern gothic WIP, called "A Year With You." I am also working on the sequel to SWAMP BABY, entitled "Spirit-Mother." I have another horror/romance set in late 1800's central FL, called "Welcome to Holbrecht", in the works.

Sabrina: What are your future plans for your writing career?

Adra: I have a supernatural/paranormal inspirational romance set in late 1800's central FL coming soon from Mardi Gras Publishing. I wouldn't mind writing more in that genre, but at the moment I want to make a name for myself in horror. There just aren't enough women writing good stories in the genre.

Thanks, Adra, for an interesting interview and best of luck with your new release!

Adra Steia’s SWAMP BABY is now available at Mardi Gras Publishing. If Horror with some romantic elements is your thing, be sure to get a copy today!

Men: Mates or Flings?

In a special to LiveScience.com, Abigail W. Leonard wrote, “Science might be able to explain our fascination with Brad Pitt's chiseled jaw and George Clooney's smoldering eyes.”

“Women seem to judge potential mates by how masculine their features are, new research shows. Men with square jaws and well-defined brow ridges are seen as good short-term partners, while those with more feminine traits such as a rounder face and fuller lips are perceived as better long-term mates.”

However, in the study, 854 male and female subjects viewed a series of male head shots. These photos were digitally altered to exaggerate or minimize masculine traits. The study concluded that those with more masculine features were likely to be risky and competitive and also more apt to fight, challenge bosses, cheat on spouses and put less effort into parenting. Those with more feminine faces were seen as good parents and husbands, hard workers and emotionally supportive mates.

Another research study in Britain last year also deduced that women would view more masculine-looking men as potential flings and less masculine-looking ones as long-term partners. The study’s author, Daniel Kruger at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health, said, it was “an evolutionary perspective.”

Leonard concludes that “Despite all the negative attributes, when asked who they would choose for a short-term relationship, women still selected the more masculine looking men. Brad and George then would be picks for a brief romance, if not the long haul.”

Okay, ladies, what do you think? Do you like’em more masculine for the long haul or the ones with more feminine traits? Whatcha think?

Blog Bonus: A WOLF TALE By Sabrina Luna

Copyright 2007 By The Author-All Rights Reserved

Derek Lee shifted in the oversized leather chair and took another sip of his coffee. The moon hadn’t even rose yet, but he could feel the effects throughout his body. He glanced over at his new friends as they chatted. Fortunately, they didn’t seem to notice. They were wrapped up in their conversation, as usual.

He liked his new buddies, Andrew and Jason. Both were about the age he appeared to be, twenty-five, and, he got along with them very well. Derek hated changing residences every few years, but it was the only way he couldn’t draw suspicion. But, he smiled to himself, it did keep life interesting.

“I need a cig.” Derek rose from his seat with his coffee in his hand. “Take that nasty habit outside, would ya?” Andrew quipped, wrinkling his nose in disgust. “Yeah, sure,” Derek shrugged. “Be back in a minute.”

He stepped out the door of the quaint little coffee shop and inhaled a deep breath. The refreshing evening air filled his lungs. He reached into his jacket pocket and withdrew a cigarette from within. Derek placed it between his lips, flicked the lighter and drew the smoke into his lungs. Yes, he knew cigarettes were poison to his system. However, it was the only thing he could do at the moment to take the edge off his nerves.

Derek walked over to the curb and gazed out at the sunset. In a few more hours the moon would be rising in the late summer sky. It didn’t matter if the moon was full, waning, or new, he could sense the silver lady’s ebb and flow. It coursed through his entire body and had slowly become a part of his being…and he found the effects difficult to ignore.

“Hey! Hey!” A man’s booming voice jerked Derek out of his thoughts. He glanced up at the bar across the narrow street from the coffee shop. A sun-tanned man with a bushy moustache stood in the open doorway to the bar glaring at him. “Huh?” Derek flashed the man an inquisitive stare. “Don’t flick your ashes on my car!” the man barked.

Derek took a step back from the curb as he noticed the shiny, green Mustang parked in front of where he was standing. A flash of embarrassment pulsed through his veins. A low growl of irritation rumbled in the back of his throat. Derek quickly cleared his throat and shrugged. “Sorry, man!” he called over as the man gave a huff and stalked back into the bar.

“Asshole.” Derek muttered under his breath as he walked over to an ashtray beside the door. He ground out the last of his cigarette, then stomped back into the coffee shop.

“What was that all about?” Jason greeted him with a wide, toothy grin.

“Some asshole thought I was flicking ashes on his fuckin’ car!” Derek fumed as he plopped down into the leather chair. “Hell, I was flicking them into the air—not on his precious car, for crying out loud!”

“Hey, we’re in public here,” Andrew scowled. “Watch your language, huh?”

Derek glanced around the coffee shop. It was empty expect for the employee behind the counter. He took a deep breath and silently counted to ten. Sometimes he wondered why he even needed companionship.

“Don’t worry about it, man,” Jason consoled him with a warm smile. “Guys like that are just a bit hung up on their cars, ya know.”

“Still, he didn’t have to be such a dick about it,” Derek hissed. He cut his eyes to the window and stared out at the shiny, green car as his blood simmered. With the moon drawing towards its new phase, Derek’s irritation stewed. His nerves were on the edge and this asshole had just topped his ‘shit list’.

“Let’s see a movie,” Andrew piped up and briskly changed the subject. “I saw in the paper that the Manor Theater is having a double feature of Charles Bronson tonight.”

“Yeah!” Jason nodded. “Sounds cool. Let’s do it!”

“What about you, Derek?” Andrew raised an eyebrow in his direction. “Or are you going to stay pissed at that jerk all night?”

Derek tore his gaze from the window to his friend. A flash of bewilderment flickered quickly over Andrew’s face. Derek mentally tugged hard on the reins of his animalistic sense and managed a forced smile. He didn’t want them to detect what lied beneath his ordinary persona. Besides, the last thing Derek wanted was to scare off his newest friends.

“Sure,” he gave a cheery laugh and felt some of his edginess dissipate. “I think a double shot of Bronson’s just what I need!”

***

Derek had stayed behind by telling his buddies that he needed to drive over to the ATM before the movies. “Save me a seat, will ya? I won’t be long." He grinned, leaning into the open window of Jason’s car. “Are you sure you don’t wanna ride with us?” Andrew asked from the passenger seat. He just laughed and shook his head. “Nope. I’ll just meet you guys there.”

Jason started the car. Over the hum of the engine, he called over to Derek. “Don’t forget, man, the movie starts at nine.” Derek nodded and drew way from the window as his friend’s car pulled out of the parking lot.

As he watched them leave, Derek’s smile faded and his jaw squared with irritation. He glanced over to the bar across the street from the coffee shop. Under a street lamp, the green Mustang’s waxy shine shimmered.

Guys like that are just a bit hung up on their cars, ya know. Derek could still hear Jason’s comment in his head as he made his way to the backside of the building. Hung up, huh? Derek responded mentally. The guy’s still a tee-total ass!

Recalling the incident in his mind, his blood began to boil. Derek turned his gaze to the dark sky. He closed his eyes and felt the magnetic tug of the moon on his body. Yes, it was happening now. The moon driven madness spiraled up from his gut and filled his entire being, and then the transformation happened.

In the past few years, each transformation to his wolf-self had gotten easier. This time, fueled by his irritation, it had happened so quickly, so smoothly that Derek had barely realized he had changed until he felt the chalky concrete underneath his padded paws. His eyes snapped open. His senses were keenly sensitive with the sights and sounds of the night around him.

Derek heard the muffled sounds of music and the voice of people as he trotted on all-fours past the closed bar doors and stepped off the curb. With smug satisfaction he headed toward the green Mustang and circled around the car.

Take this, asshole. He raised a hind-leg to the back tire and sprayed a wet mist over the shiny chrome hubcap. A strong, pungent odor filled the night air. Derek felt an ironic sense of release.

Whoosh! The bar door swung open. “What the Hell?” A rough voice boomed into the night. “Get away from my car, you Goddamn mutt!” The moustached man bellowed as he barged toward the car.

Derek quickly turned to face the man head on. He waited until the man drew close enough under the streetlight to see him more clearly. A loud growl rumbled from his throat as he bared his fangs. “Oh shit!” the man cursed, stopping in mid-step. The man’s face contorted into one of shock. Derek’s keen wolf-self smelt the fear that reeked from the man.

Cautiously, the owner of the Mustang took a light step backward. He was going to run, Derek knew it. He bolted forward before big man could turn around. The man let out a terrified screech and threw up his arms to protect himself as Derek’s wolf-self leapt up. His fangs sank into the man’s forearm. The skin gave way as the hot, metallic taste of blood filled his mouth. The man, still screeching, fell back onto the asphalt with Derek still latched onto his arm.

Somewhere near the bar, he heard a woman’s high pitched cries. “Wolf! Oh my God! There’s a fuckin’ wolf out there!”

The man’s arm was coated with dark blood as Derek withdrew his fangs from the flesh. Derek glanced over to the bar. The woman’s cries had sent a scurry of action through the building. It won’t be long before someone would be coming to the man’s rescue.

He lowered his eyes, smug with satisfaction and glared into the man’s face. The man’s features were twisted terror. Asshole! He mentally conveyed with a final, harsh growl, and then leapt off the man’s chest with a single bound.

A loud pop resounded in the night air. He dashed, as fast his four legs would carry him, through the parking lot. There was another loud pop. Damn! Someone was shooting at him. A bullet whizzed past him and stuck the asphalt. Derek was grateful the yahoo was a lousy shot.

He jumped for the safety of the surrounding hedges and slipped into its foliage. The heavy, dark green bushes camouflaged his escape. Fortunately for Derek, the man with the gun didn’t pursue. Derek didn’t stop until he reached his car on the other side of the bushes.

Winded from the encounter, he slumped against the side of the car. His heart was thumping wildly in his chest. He could still taste the bitter tang of the moustached man’s blood on his lips. It was bittersweet satisfaction, Derek mused. Sure, he’d feel guilty in the morning, but, tonight, it just felt good.

Drawing a deep breath, he began to quiet himself. The transformation rippled quickly, effortlessly over his body. Derek felt the change over his body. With ease, his entire being swiftly returned from his wolf-self. Back in his human body, he wiped the sweat from his brow and straightened his clothes.

Off, in the distance, the sirens began wail. Time for me to go! Derek opened the car door, slid into the driver’s seat and fastened his seatbelt. Through the windshield, he saw the whirling red and blue reflection of lights from the direction of the bar. He started the car and pulled out of his hiding place to head down the road.

Derek gave a quick glance over at the clock on the dashboard and smiled to himself. “That’s cool. I can still make the movies…just in time.”

Time Past & Time Future: It's All In Your Mind

Yahoo! News reports that, “Our ability to daydream about our future is closely related to our ability to recall our past, and may even depend on it, according to a study which may explain a little-known quirk of the amnesiac's condition.”

A small study of twenty-one students’ brain scans reveals that past events and daydreams of future events overlap in the brain regions used for both processes.

Karl Szpunur, who is lead author of the study and a doctoral student in psychology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, says, “"Our findings provide compelling support for the idea that memory and future thought are highly interrelated and help explain why future thought may be impossible without memories."

In conclusion, the finding may explain why people with amnesia, a condition involving various degrees of memory loss, cannot vividly envision themselves in any kind of personal future, even though they can consider the future in an abstract sense.
