13 of My Favorite Gemstones

I’ve been an avid collector of gemstones for many years. I’ve listed a few of my favorites here along with their various colors and metaphysical properties –enjoy!

1. Amethyst –Lavender to deep purple color. An extremely powerful and protective stone with a high spiritual vibration.
2. Angelite –Blue and white color, sometimes flecked with red. A stone of “awareness” and peace. Useful in connecting with the angelic realms.
3. Azurite –Deep blue in hue, but often seen in combination with Malachite (blue-green stone). A stone to guide psychic and intuitive development.
4. Chrysocolla –Green, blue and turquoise colors. Helps with mediation and communication. A stone of serenity and peace.
5. Citrine –Yellow to brownish-yellow or smoky gray-brown in color. A powerful cleaner and regenerator. Carries the power of the sun and is very positive and beneficial. It absorbs, transmutes, dissipates and grounds negative energy and is excellent for overall protection.
6. Danburite –Pink, yellow, white and lilac colors. It’s linked to serenity and eternal wisdom, connecting with the angelic realms. Also acts as a karma cleanser and helps with new transitions.
7. Emerald –Green, of course! It’s a stone of inspiration and infinite peace. Also promotes unconditional love, partnership and friendship too.
8. Garnet –Commonly found in red, it also comes in pink, green, orange, yellow, brown and black. It’s a powerfully energetic stone used to purify, revitalize and balance energies, bringing serenity and passion as appropriate.
9. Lapis Lazuli –Deep blue with golden flecks. It stimulates psychic development, dream work and spiritual enlightenment.
10. Moonstone –Colors vary from white, cream and yellow to blue and green too. It’s a very feminine stone, strongly connection with the moon and womanly cycles. Promotes empathy, intuition and calming emotions.
11. Obsidian –A stone formed from cooled lava, its colors vary from brown and black to green, rainbow sheen. Helps to promote deep soul healing as well as being a highly protective stone. Great for soaking up negative energies!
12. Tiger’s Eye –Comes in several shades of brown-yellow, pink, blue and red. It combines the energy of the sun and earth. A very protective stone, yet grounding and stimulates the manifestation of the Will.
13. Turquoise –Green and blue varieties. A most effective healer stone, providing solace for the spirit and well-being for the body. It enhances communication between the physical realm and the spiritual worlds.

2007's Bad Sex in Fiction Award

Literary author, Norman Mailer, who passed away last month at 84, was awarded 2007’s Bad Sex Award. His explicit rendition of the incestuous encounter between Adolf Hitler's parents won the writer one of the world's most dubious literary prizes.

The annual award aims to highlight crude and tasteless descriptions of sex in modern novels. Mailer’s prize-winning excerpt was taken from one of his last works, "The Castle in the Forest," a fictionalized exploration of Hitler's family, narrated by a demon.

In a ceremony at the In & Out Club in central London, the judges paid homage to a "great American man of letters," adding: "We are sure that he would have taken the prize in good humor."

Other nominees were Harry Potter actor, David Thewlis, for his sex scene in his novel "The Late Hector Kipling” and Jeannette Winterson, for her awkward love scene in "The Stone Gods," involving a woman and a robot.

20 Good, Healthy Reasons To Have Sex!

Stefan Anitei, Science Editor of Softpedia, writes that sex seems to be more than a hormonal discharge and some short moments of pure pleasure. “Scientists show that sex is extremely beneficial for our health, while the lack of an active sex life might have negative effects.”

He concludes, “Masturbation is not a solution: blood prolactin levels in males and females after orgasm is 4 times higher in both sexes compared with the levels after orgasm from masturbation. Prolactin counteracts the effects of another hormone, dopamine, booming during sexual arousal. This explains why orgasm from intercourse is more satisfying than masturbation and the "recovery period" in men, as high levels of prolactin induce erectile dysfunction.”

However, too much sex can be harmful. Sexual intercourse more than three times a week can weaken the immune system and make us vulnerable to infections.

But here’s the brighter, healthier side to an active sex life:

1. Sex is beneficial for both the heart and the blood circulation, especially in the brain. While having sex, the heart rate goes from 70 beats per minute to 150, a good training for the heart. Having sex thrice a week decreases the risk of heart attack by 50 %. Also during the sex intercourses, the breath is deeper, meaning a better oxygenation.

2. The mental and emotional health balance is clearly tuned by sex. People who are involuntarily celibate or abstinent and often exhibit depressive feelings (like anger, frustration, self-doubt, paranoia and even depression) are driven into this by "missed opportunities", due to living without having sex.

In fact, in case of light depressions, after having sex the brain releases endorphins, that decrease stress, inducing a state of euphoria.

3. Sex eliminates stress. You know the feeling of total relaxation and calm following a sexual intercourse. A subsequent profound calming sleep follows, with great effect in combating the stress, and persons with a regular sex life sleep better and feel better the next day.

4. Sex means softer skin. While having sex, a woman's body doubles the estrogen level, and this makes her hair shine while the skin becomes softer.

5. Long term researches showed that regular basis sex increases the humans’ lifespan. For the same age and health, those who had orgasms more frequently had half the death rate of men who did not have such frequent orgasms. This could be due to the plummeting stress hormones, reaction that installs after we have sex. Frequent orgasms (about 100 per year) have been linked to an increase of 3-8 years in a person's lifespan and a decrease of death risk of 50%.

6. Sweating while having sex cleanse the skin pores, making the skin brighter and decreasing the risk of developing dermatitis.

7. Sex can keep you fit, burning extra-pounds. Quickies of 20 minutes-weekly means 7 500 calories annually, that’s as much as you consume on 120 km (745 mi) of jogging. A sex session can burn about 200 calories. This is like running 15 minutes on a treadmill!

8. Sex strengthens muscles. So much pushes and flexions... It depends on your stunts in bed, of course, but it's clearly a lot more fun than running for miles. Bed fitness sessions clearly improve muscles of your pelvis, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, chest and arms.

9. The more active your sex life is, the more attractive for the opposite sex you are. High sexual activity makes the body release more pheromones, chemicals that attract the opposite sex, but also to display a security given by experience.

10. Sex improves senses, at least the smell. Following the orgasm, a rise of the hormone prolactin makes the brain's stem cells form new neurons in the olfactory bulb, boosting a person's olfactory abilities.

11. Sex is also a pain reliever, ten times more effective than Valium: immediately before orgasm, levels of the hormone oxytocin rise by five times, determining a huge release of endorphins. These chemicals calm pain, from a minor headache to arthritis or migraines, and with no secondary effects. Migraines also disappear because the pressure in the brain's blood vessels is lowered while we have sex. So now we see that actually, a woman's headache is rather a good reason for having sex, not against it.

Sex also stimulates the release of estrogen, decreasing the PSM pains.

12. Kissing stimulates salivation, which cleanses food left between the teeth and lowers the acidity in the mouth, the main cause of the tooth decay and bad breath.

13. Sex fights off allergies. A good sex session can be a good remedy against stiff nose, being a natural antihistaminic that helps combating asthma and high fever.

14. Regular sex balances the ratio good cholesterol: bad cholesterol.

15. Sex balances sex hormones: estrogen protects a woman's heart but on the long term, it can be efficient also against Alzheimer's disease and osteoporosis while testosterone spurs the growth of the bones and muscles.

16. The sexual activity means less colds, flu and infections. 1-2 intercourses weekly means 30 % higher levels of the antibody immunoglobulin A, that spurs the immune system.

17. Sex means a better control of the bladder, as pelvis muscles controlling the urine flow are stronger.

18. After orgasm, especially in the evening, we get sleepy. Sex increases sleep quality. Following an orgasm, the body of both males or females becomes completely relaxed, so they may have a good deep sleep.

19. Most pregnant women stop having sex a few weeks before giving birth, as there is a widespread idea that having sex late in pregnancy could trigger labor. But studies show this is not true. Prostaglandin is released in huge amounts by the woman’s body as it triggers labor. Also, orgasm can induce uterine contractions. Still, there is no scientific proof that sexual intercourse close to the end of pregnancy starts the labor.

20. Sex fights cancer! Various researches have shown that a high ejaculation frequency and sexual activity are linked to a lower risk of prostate cancer later in life. A study found out that men who ejaculated 13 to 20 times monthly presented a 14% lower risk of prostate cancer than men who ejaculated on average, between 4 and 7 times monthly for most of their adult life. Those ejaculating over 21 times a month presented a 33% decreased risk of developing prostate cancer than the baseline group.

My Yahoo ID was stolen last week. (I did something stupid by clicking on a bogus page thru a supposed “friend” in IM and entered my ID and password –d’oh!) It’s an account I’ve had for the last 8 years that included my emails, copies of contracts and other private and personal information. I was heartsick.

The good side is that I contacted Yahoo security. They sent me an email asking for my account information and are attempting to retrieve my account. I seriously doubt it will happen though. The reason --I simply don’t remember some of the answers from my account information (well, it has been 8 years since I opened the account).

If you have a Yahoo! account, I highly recommend you to make a paper copy of your information and save it. That includes your birthday, alternative email, secret question and answer. Security says ALL must match and, if you’re like me, you’ve had your account a long time and can’t remember!

While searching the web for answers about stolen Yahoo IDs, I came across an unofficial blog and this happens to folks a lot! Unfortunately, if you can’t answer your questions, you’re screwed! So heed my ‘warning’ and safeguard your email accounts at all costs!

Also! I had an online e-newsletter created for my readers. Since my ID was stolen and I was the sole-moderator, I can no longer access the account. I’ve created a second incarnation of the e-newsletter and will be busy trying to gain back my members. Another tip –always have a second moderator for your groups, either yourself at another email address or a good friend –and save yourself major headaches!

"If we die on our mission, at least we will die with a smile upon our
lips and satisfaction in our loins!" Thabit had overheard a warrior's
remark to a fellow companion as the festivities began. The commander
gave an amused chuckle, lifting the jug to his lips once more.

"The mouth of a perfectly contented man is filled with beer." A
lyrical, yet powerful voice came from behind him, dissipating his
thoughts. He knew that voice. It was one that affected him like no other.

Thabit turned to the shadowy form and grinned. "Are you quoting
fanciful poetry again?"

Akil stepped out of the shadows and into the light. His bronzed cheeks
flushed with a rich hue of embarrassment. However, despite his
taunting, Thabit was truly proud of his dearest friend. Akil was a
scribe and studying under Thebes' most prolific scholars. Sensing
Akil's uneasiness, Thabit continued. "Yes, the beer is good and stout
tonight, but I'd rather content myself with something else."

"Is that so, commander?" Akil's eyes were encircled with kohl,
accenting the deep, rich intensity of his gaze. Thabit saw a twinkle
of mischief in their reflection. A wave of desire coursed through his
body.

Akil's white linen robe gave a gentle, graceful sway as he stepped
close. The warrior silently marveled at the handsome man with an
affectionate smile. Unlike his own thick, muscular-build, Akil was
lean with slender arms and long, tapered fingers. A shiver ran through
Thabit as he recalled just how well the two men knew each other. Often
he'd marveled at the scribe's keen ability to look past his toughened
exterior…and into the depths of his soul.

"The royal court has spared no expense for you and your men tonight.
So, tell me, what does the pharaoh's most skillful and brightest
warrior really want?" A sly smile spread over Akil's lips.

"I am honored by all the gifts the royal court has provided tonight.
The wine, women and songs are bringing great pleasure to my men."
Thabit gently inhaled the sensual scent of his lover. The heady aroma
of myrrh and musk surrounded Akil like a soft cloud, tempting Thabit.
He cleared his throat, adding in a low whisper, "But, that is not what
I want. I want you, my beloved."

"By Amun-Ra, you flatter me, Thabit." Akil cheeks flushed again with
color, but, with unwavering bravado, he curled his long fingers around
Thabit's thick wrist. With gentle persuasion Akil coaxed Thabit,
drawing him to the darkened side of the pillar.

In the shadows of the large, engraved column, Thabit took his lover's
less-than-subtle hint. He wrapped an arm around Akil's slender hips
and drew him close. Thabit's body hummed with arousal. His cock,
partially erect, swelled beneath the simple linen wrap knotted around
his waist.

"Ah, but I assume you want more than flattery, don't you?" Thabit
inquired with an amused smirk. His question was answered by a flicker
of mutual lust in Akil's eyes.

Desire coursed through his veins, desperate, hot and needy, as he
smoothly captured Akil's mouth with his own. He felt Akil's warm sigh
of approval, the firmness of the scribe's body beneath the
light-weight robes. Akil wrapped his slender arms around Thabit's

Akil surrendered first, pulling free with a soft gasp. "It is

"I agree," Thabit nodded. Reluctantly, he loosened his hold on Akil,
releasing him, but his body reverberated with bittersweet longing.
"However, in the morning, my men and I will be leaving on our mission.
I wish to spend this last night alone…with you."

"It would be my pleasure, dear brother." A soft smile curled over
Akil's lips and then he inclined his head. He gestured to a distant
limestone building just beyond the crowded courtyard. Akil leaned
close, whispering into Thabit's ear. "Come, follow me and your wish
will be fulfilled."

The lusty promise made Thabit's heart flutter beneath his tough,
warrior demeanor. The warrior was cautious, but placed the empty jug
aside. Akil rounded the pillar, causally strolling in the direction of
the building. Thabit surveyed the crowd. No one had seen the embrace.
He exhaled a deep breath, then stepped out, a few paces behind and
followed Akil into the crowd.

I’ve never seen you like uh, this before.” He managed a thin smile. “But you’re beautiful. Really, really beautiful.”

He didn’t know how much of what he said she’d comprehend. In his own experience, he recalled that sometimes he felt human inside, other times not.

“Remember what I said earlier, Derek. Within us, there is a delicate balance between our human side and our sithech.” Derek heard her voice in his head as if she were speaking directly to him. The wolf blinked her big, green eyes, then slowly nodded. “Of course I can understand you.”

“Oh, good!” Derek exhaled a sigh of relief. “For a moment there, I thought I was the lunatic.”

Megan trotted over to the porch and laid a paw on a pile of clothing…her clothing, folded neatly on a wooden plank. She glanced back at him, a glimmer of moonlight in her eyes. “Wait here a moment,” she conveyed, then disappeared around the side of the house. Within a few minutes, a bare arm appeared around the edge of the cabin.

“My clothes, please?” she asked with a wave of her hand. “Sorry I took off like that, but I was feeling a bit edgy. I desperately needed a run in the woods.”

Derek grinned, scooping up the pile and handed them to her. “It’s okay. I understand. I just can’t get over seeing you like that, Meg. You’re a beautiful creature.”

“Gee, thanks!” Megan, now in her human form, rounded the corner, returning his grin. “Maybe I should pose for the cover of National Geographic, huh?” She winked.

He reached out, encircling his arm around her waist and drew her to him. “You’re a beautiful sithech and woman too.”

In the glow of the moonlight, he saw her cheeks darken with color. She looked so lovely, so tempting—even if she had twigs stuck in her hair.

“Derek, you shouldn’t say such things.” There was a quiver in her voice as she attempted to pull from his grasp.

“Now, hold on, Meg,” he coaxed. “What’s wrong with me finding you attractive?”

“It’s just the moon having its effect on you. You’re not thinking clearly,” she protested.

“Well, I must confess, Ms. McShaw, I found you attractive even before the moon was near full. Does that make you feel any better?” Derek chuckled and leaned closer, catching a whiff of her dark musky scent.

Megan gazed up at him, speechless. He brought a hand up and tenderly brushed away a smug of dirt on her warm cheek with the pad of his thumb. A shiver went through his body like a ghost passing through a wall.

She drew a ragged breath. “Derek, now is not—”

Before she could finish her protest, Derek kissed her. Her lips were like warm honey, sweet and yielding against his hungry mouth. A low moan escaped from deep in her throat, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she leaned in closer, her arms wrapping around his shoulders, drawing their bodies together.

Every muscle in his body tightened, burning with an inner fire. His cock, buried in the crotch of the borrowed sweatpants, also responded, humming to life.

“What is your name, girl?” Samson spoke, his voice rumbling through the silence and breaking through her churning thoughts. He moved towards her. His movements were feline and full of grace. The dark-haired man was wearing no more than a pair of loose fitting gold lame slacks and a bejeweled pair of sandals on his feet. The soft lighting of the room played over the fine form of his muscles as they moved under his flesh. He was taut and fit, a prime example of the male physique. Dixie felt the heat once again consume her body. Her nipples stiffened in response to his gaze, as if begging for Samson’s attention.

“Dixie, sir.”

“Dixie?” His eyes gleamed as a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “I’ve heard of you. You are the protégé of Mr. Wilcox; am I correct?”

“Yes, sir.”

The mummy of the 19-year-old pharaoh has been placed in a climate-controlled glass box in the tomb, with only the face and feet showing under the linen covering.



I’m personally thrilled since this unique event coincides with my story’s release! The boy king and his reign over Egypt are a focus point in A WARRIOR’S HOPE.
